Chapter 4

About This Episode

On this episode, Simone Rizkallah, Director of Program Growth, is joined by Stephanie Burke and Claire Dwyer from the Avila Institute to discuss Chapter 4 from the Endow Study Guide on St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

Show Notes

In this episode, we chat about the sacrifice of following God’s call in our lives in the context of St. Thérèse telling her Father about her Carmelite calling at the extraordinarily young age of 14. Despite the “loss” of his daughter, he does everything he can to help her say yes to her vocation. We share the experience of what risking abandonment to God looks like and the adventure that follows in one’s life with that decision.

Discussion Questions

  1. Have you ever made a decision, based on your love for Jesus, that went against the wishes of your family and/or the opinion of your peers? If so, describe the decision and its aftermath. What resources were required, inner and outer?
  2. Have you ever wanted to make a decision or move, based on your love for Jesus, that went against the wishes of your family and/or the opinion of your peers—but didn’t? If so, describe that decision and its aftermath.
  3. What are your attachments, if any, that keep you from putting God first in your life? Are there people, places, ideas, or things—however otherwise worthy or “good”—that are coming before God such that your life might need to be reprioritized and/or reordered?

Quotes To Ponder
