Chapter 6

About This Episode

On this episode, Simone Rizkallah, Director of Program Growth, is joined by Stephanie Burke and Claire Dwyer from the Avila Institute to discuss Chapter 6 from the Endow Study Guide on St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

Show Notes

In this episode, we chat about how the maturity of our spiritual lives is a deeper and more profound insight into our limitations. We discuss how instead of allowing the recognition of her littleness to discourage her, St. Therese leans into it with confidence, letting God be God and work his "impossible" graces. She helps us embrace the one condition for sanctity: abandonment.

Discussion Questions

  1. Do you have a relationship with a family member or friend that you find particularly troubling? If so, why do you find it troubling? How are you turning to Jesus for help? What kind of help is He giving you?
  2. Reflect on the times, if any, when you’ve felt moved to “set people straight.” What were your motives? Were the people “set straight?”
  3. Thérèse also learned to interact creatively with less-than-perfect superiors, while also remaining totally obedient. How do you react, interiorly and exteriorly, to people in positions of authority with whom you disagree? How did Jesus react?

Quotes To Ponder

"Merit does not consist in doing or in giving much, but rather in receiving, in loving much." - St. Thérèse of Lisieux
