Chapter 7

About This Episode

On this episode, Simone Rizkallah, Director of Program Growth, is joined by Stephanie Burke and Claire Dwyer from the Avila Institute to discuss Chapter 7 from the Endow Study Guide on St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

Show Notes

In this episode, we chat about how each person is free, truly free, to respond to the sacrifices possible in the Christian life—to give much or to give little. We discuss the paradox of the unity and diversity of what it means to become oneself aka a saint and how each person is an "extension" of the life of Christ. In other words, each person's witness is a proposal of the Gospel in a new way. Simone, Stephanie and Claire also share the nuances of their own personal vocations and invite everyone to reflect on learning how to articulate their own!

Discussion Questions

  1. How closely do you read the Gospels? If you don’t already, discuss how you might begin to discover in them “new lights, new meanings.” Think of a couple of favorite Gospel passages: How do they compare to your spiritual or other reading apart from the Gospels?
  2. How often do you attend Mass? Why do you attend Mass? Reflect upon Jesus’s words at the Last Supper: “Do this in memory of me” (Lk 22:19). If you’re not finding Mass an “unspeakable consolation,” what might you begin asking for in prayer?
